David Torn’s Prezens at Joe’s Pub, NYC

This recent concert is reviewed.

The resulting music is a mix of melodic lines, harmonic textures, and pure sounds—all subject to electronic alteration that is part of each improvisatory composition. While Torn clearly leads the band, the interplay between him and the others, particularly Berne and Rainey, is what makes the music. In this set, Taborn mostly created the background sonic wash, constantly adjusting his equipment. Perhaps the house balance was off, but his contributions were not clearly heard most of the time, unless everything else dropped out, when you realized he had been there all along.

Not Applicable Album Launch Concert

UK label Not Applicable will celebrate with a launch concert for their two latest releases.

On Friday 4th April we’ll be celebrating the release of two new records on Not Applicable with performances by both groups upstairs at the Betsey Trotwood in Farringdon. The night will start at 8pm and you can find further details here.

Arthurs.Høiby.Ritchie – This exciting trio features three of the UK’s most sought after musicians, Tom Arthurs, Jasper Høiby and Stuart Ritchie. All have their own separate projects but came together as Arthurs.Høiby.Ritchie in 2005. Their debut album, explications is simply one stage of what promises to be an exhilarating and ongoing journey for this fearsome trio.

Lothar Ohlmeier / Isambard Khroustaliov – One of the most insightful and thought provoking electro-acousic duos to have appeared over the last few years, their debut release is the culmination of 3 years spent exploring the realms of improvised music and live electronics.
