You only turn 100 once (if you are very lucky, that is). Today is Marshall Allen’s day.
Marshall Allen, who plays sax and other instruments, joined Sun Ra’s Arkestra in 1958. He played a significant role in shaping the Arkestra’s sound, contributing to its experimentalism. Over the decades, he has performed on numerous recordings as well as live all over the world. Following Sun Ra’s passing in 1993, Allen assumed leadership of the Arkestra, continuing its legacy and guiding the cosmic jazz ensemble into the 21st century.
