AMN Reviews: Markus Guentner – Onda (Affin)

Brevity, wrote Cicero, is a great charm of eloquence. Markus Guentner’s Onda is quite brief, and yet speaks volumes. Then again, perhaps it only seems short because it is frankly so captivating time gets lost. Superficially, it is a relatively staid, overcast affair, but the light rolls through Onda. Its six tracks hang weightlessly and a gentle radiance makes its clouds glow. It is subtly orchestral, uplifting music from a hand well practiced at crafting nuanced textures, proclaiming a profound message with supple eloquence. With Onda, Guentner has produced that rare ambient album freighted with such genuine feeling that it instills the listener with an uncanny joy.
