AMN Reviews: Earthflesh & I,Eternal – Fosses Intemporelles (2024; Musique Moléculaire / Short Run Industries)

This single-track EP is a 26-minute exploration of rumbling drones, sculpted static, and crackling acousmatic elements. The foreground is active with aleatoric noises in the upper registers. These include sustained, high-frequency oscillations and piercing tones. Translated as “Timeless Graves” the album is a collaborative recording from Earthflesh (Bruno Silvestre Favez) and I,Eternal (Eric Jovet) that was composed and recorded in December 2023 and released this month. Like many efforts along these lines, the music tells a dark story not unlike a soundtrack to an imaginary film. Not quite harsh noise, Fosses Intemporelles is dense and disturbing with new textures and structures emerging throughout its length.
