ICE premieres major new works by George Lewis and Nicole Mitchell

From chicagotribune.com:

The lines separating avant-garde jazz, contemporary classical and other experimental idioms blurred long ago, but rarely more dramatically than on Sunday afternoon at the Museum of Contemporary Art. In a provocative program by the International Contemporary Ensemble, also known as ICE, new and recent scores tested listeners’ preconceptions on how music is made and perceived. Inevitably, some of the works proved more effective than others, but the best of them showed how accomplished composers can create gripping musical languages for themselves.
