Donation to David S. Ware

As promised, I’ve donated our advertising proceeds for the last 3 months to Aum Fidelity for their David S. Ware fund. Here’s to hoping David has a speedy recovery from his kidney transplant.

2009 So Far

As opposed to our picks of the week post, the data below was gathered from logs at I’ve culled through them to determine the albums released so far in 2009 that have garnered the most listens. Thus, this list is fairly representative of not just what is appreciated here at AMN Central, but also what we keep listening to. I’m somewhat surprised by the results, as a lot of releases that I liked quite a bit at first blush have received relatively few listens. Need to work on that…

Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society – Infernal Machines
Henry Cow – Vol. 1: Beginnings
Nels Cline – Coward
Univers Zero – Relaps: Archives 1984-1986
Quartet Offensive – Carnivore
John Zorn – Filmworks XXII The Last Supper
John Hébert – Byzantine Monkey
Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey – Winterwood
Land Of Kush – Against the Day
Maurizo Bianchi – A M.B. Lehn Tale
Michaël Attias – Credo
James Blackshaw – The Glass Bead Game
Mary Halvorson and Jessica Pavone – Thin Air
Gerald Cleaver, William Parker, Craig Taborn – Farmers by Nature
Kayo Dot – Blue Lambency Downward
Alex Cline – Continuation

Site News

Hello once again. I haven’t said much about the site recently, so here’s a few updates.

Thanks to everyone who filled out our survey from a couple of weeks back. I’ve gone through the results and have started taking some of your suggestions into account already. I hope to write up the results in some meaningful fashion soon.

Technically, the site is doing quite well. We’ve been setting traffic records lately, which is nice. Performance has been good since we moved to the new hosting company last year, so worries with all that. I expect to traffic to drop a while over the summer, as the weather gets nicer and we all find more time to spend outside (as we should).

For those of you on Facebook, I’m playing around with an Avant Music News Facebook page. Right now it is mostly a copy of our RSS news feed. You can join, become a fan, discuss stuff, etc. I’m not sure where it will go, so we’ll see.

Finally, in eight days, AMN will celebrate its six-year anniversary. I doubt that I’ll do anything special, aside from maybe taking it easy that day. Sometimes it is hard to believe that we’ve kept it going this long. In any case…thanks.
