Gravelshard is the fusion of two duos, Vincente + Trilla and Rupp + Hughes, blending diverse musical styles to create spaces for unique interactions. The title symbolizes a fragment of rock, suggesting both literal and metaphorical rock, and reflects the ensemble’s dynamic interplay. Linae, a trio featuring João Almeida on trumpet, Rodrigo Pinheiro on piano, and Vasco Furtado on drums, formed during a studio session where they recorded their acclaimed 2023 debut album, “Linae,” under the Phonogram Unit label. Later that year, they toured Portugal, including a memorable performance at SMUP in Parede, a venue celebrated for its ambiance and acoustics conducive to improvisation. The historic Blüthner piano at SMUP, despite its age, added a unique tone to their music. The live album “Continuum – Live at SMUP” captures three extended free improvisations, reflecting the trio’s organic development of ideas and intuitive communication, aiming to convey the joy and inspiration of their live performance.
