Fanoplane to Perform at the 2024 Artomatic

Fanoplane returns to the stage on April 6 on Washington DC’s Artomatic’s 8-th floor “Global Stage”, performing from 2:15-3:00.   Artomatic is located at 2100 M Street NW, Washington, DC 20037 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/5Xb299aAEQDAN9Ta6) – M Street is one-way westbound; the entrance is about ½ way down the block on the right (21st Street is one-way southbound) next to the parking garage.  Street parking can be very difficult, compounded by the fact that that part of DC is a veritable warren of one-way streets.  There is, however, limited paid parking in the building’s basement garage.

Artomatic is an open-entry creative art showcase of visual art, music, film, performance, poetry and fashion.  It typically occupies large commercial spaces that are either in transition or have recently been delivered to the market.  The process of bringing hundreds of artists together helps build a community amongst those artists and creates a market to sell their work.  It is a multi-week, multimedia arts event held in the Washington, D.C. area. It was founded by Washington, D.C artist and arts activist George Koch. The non-juried, open event has provided a forum for artists of all types (visual, performance, and literary) and abilities (from novice to professional). There are also arts education and professional development workshops and discussions.

Fanoplane is an improvisational ensemble, co-founded by Bob Boilen on ARP synthesizer and Ted Zook, who will perform on NS Design 5-string electric cello.  The ensemble never uses scores nor rehearses; it just loads-in, sets-up, tunes-up and plays.  The ensemble’s lineup varies; on April 7, in addition to Bob Boilen and Ted Zook, it will consist of Jerry Busher (FugaziScream) on percussion; Patrick Whitehead (Monumental Brass Quintet) on quarter-tone Flügelhorn and trumpet; Dan Gutstein, spoken word; Brie Anderson, baritone guitar; and Sonia Maria Herrero, violin.  Because Fanoplane’s line-up varies from performance to performance, and due to the fact that it never rehearses nor uses written music, each performance is unique.  For this reason, every performance is recorded and posted for free download at https://www.tedzook.com/fanoplane/ .

There is no charge for any of Artomatic’s events; however, contributions are gladly accepted – https://tinyurl.com/mrxw387x .
