Hydra Ensemble – Águas

On 31st January 2022, Hydra Ensemble performed at De Pletterij in Haarlem (NL). It was a good one. A video of the full performance can be seen here. And luckily our bass player Gonçalo decided to release the (newly mixed and mastered) recording on his label Cylinder Recordings. I’d say this is my favorite Hydra recording thus far…
Hydra Ensemble at ZomerJazzFietsTour
Groningen, 26 August
The ZomerJazzFietsTour festival is a unique jazz event and bicycle tour in the province of Groningen, the Netherlands. The audience bikes through the countryside, from gig to gig, in unique venues (barnes, churches, etc.). So we’re super happy that we’re performing there tomorrow! We play at the church in Oldehove. Dou with Nina Hitz at GRAW2023
Rotterdam, 15 September
Half of Hydra Ensemble (Nina and me) will perform at the studio building Ackerdijkstraat, for the opening of Groot Rotterdams Atelier Weekend 2023. We perform around 17:00. Later in the evening Philip Ernsting and Hugo costa will perform too.
Rutger Zuydervelt – Kaleiding
Performance soundtrack, cd/dl/stream, pre-order
Circus/dance duo Lily Schlinker and Janick Kremer asked me to create the score for their mesmerizing, playful performance Kaleiding. The music is a mixed bag… not (I hope) in terms of quality, but stylistically. Fitting with the performance structure, it starts with a contemplative ambient part, then getting into weird techno territory (think James Holden), towards a noisier abstract soundworld. Quite a trip, I’d say. I just hope it makes sense as a stand-alone album too. But check that out for yourselves… Released on September 22, but pre-order is open now.
Lily&Janick – Kaleiding
Performance dates
Lily&Janick are premièring their Kaleiding performance during Cirque Mania at (one of my favorite dance venues,) Korzo, The Hague, on September 23. More performance in Belgium and Germany in October. Check their website for more info, and YouTube for a trailer.

Track on Seasonal Diary III compilation
As the title suggest, this track was initially created for the above-mentioned performance, but ended up being replaced by something more fitting. I still liked the track though, and I’m not so good in killing my darlings, so when Objects & Sounds asked me for a track for their ongoing Seasonal Diary compilation series, I happily submitted this piece. Made in the hottest July ever, it felt like the perfect soundtrack for a heat wave. Check out the compilation, I’m in amazing company (Sam Prekop, Yves De Mey, etc).
Assemblage Manifesto – Ongoing Solos
Sound/visual project by Brendan Locher
Brendan Locher invited by to participate on his project Assemlage Manifesto. Various artists are performing a solo piece inspired by a drawing of Brendan. The project is (as the subtitle Ongoing Solos suggests) still in progress, and more pieces will be added over time. Once there’s 40 of ’em, they will be combined with their visual components, in a physical format.
Conny Janssen Danst x Marta & Kim
Performance at Nederlandse Dansdagen
Each year, dance company Conny Janssen Danst invites young choreographers to make a short piece for their dancers. This year, Marta & Kim are in the program. As you might know, I’ve done several scores for this great duo, so I’m super excited that they asked me again. The Danslokaal program will be presented at Nederlandse Dansdagen, in Maastricht (NL), on 29, 30 and 31 September.
