Doors at 7:30pm $8

It’s a night of newer Detroit groups performing a variety of rock that stands out from the crowd. Fresh off the release of their first record, Heresay, buzz-worthy music-makers MRKT return to our stage with their updated take on Canterbury-style prog rock, featuring catchy hooks and instrumental acumen. These guys make so much sound happen, it’s hard to believe they’re a duo! Frizz is an even newer group, operating both in the world of tightly constructed songs and sprawling, messy jams by the unpredictable unit of Joel Peterson, Samantha Linn, Tyler Hicks, William Hafer and Chole Sells. The show kicks off with the mystery group of the night, Metal Bubble Trio, a new enterprise. of notable folks.

Break up the monotony of your workday with our casual exploration of all music electronic. Don’t miss our mid-afternoon Tuesday Synthesizer Series that’s steadily growing in popularity. Upcoming performances:
Matthew Smith (March 7, 2 pm)
Stacey MacLeod (March 21, 2pm)

Thursday, March 23: Wrest (Jack Wright/Evan Lipson/Ben Bennett)
Truly free-improvised music from a trio featuring one of the music’s original American heroes, saxophonist Jack Wright, with two of his most stalwart, sympathetic collaborators: Evan Lipson (doublebass) and Ben Bennett (drums). Expect full-tilt exploration of the sonic limits of each musicians’ instrument and a sundry palette of leaping and swooping phrases, microtones, and multi-phonic proficiency that are unusual even in the field of experimental musics. Now in his eighties, Wright remains an icon of American underground music and this show is not to be missed.

April 10: Anna Webber’s Shimmer Wince, Marcus Elliot and Jaribu Shahid
April 22: Edition Redux (Ken Vandermark, Lily Finnegan, Erez Dessel and Beth McDonald)
