Festival Sacred Realism 2022
PROGRAM
December 8th
17:00-18:00
“Distances Bending” Day I
Clara de Asís – synthesizer
Rebecca Lane – flutes, organ pipes and ‘silent’ whistlesDistances Bending is an ever-expanding process – a building up, distilling and mirroring of materials particular to each artist, responding to and inhabiting a space over multiple hours or days. A repeated time structure, a temporal loop that is altered through upwardly evolving frequencies, instruments (whose size, timbre and shape correspond to these frequencies), various filtering bodies and changing light. For this festival, the piece will take place over 3 evenings.
20:30 CONCERT
Set 1:
The Real As Imaginary (2012)
for voice and noise
Peter Ablinger
performed by the composerAblinger’s incredible examination of language, cognition, and spatial localization consists of the recitation of the text “The Real as Imaginary”, and static noise that almost completely envelops and covers the speech. In every moment of this enveloping, different frequency bands – “windows” – are left open, so that in one case the fundamentals of the language remain uncovered (and therefore heard/guessed) in another case, the sibilants, etc.
Set 2:
Triadic Memories (1981)
for piano
Morton Feldman
Xavier Lopez – pianoA rare piano performance by Xavier Lopez presenting Feldman’s seminal solo work.

Prisma Interius IV (2016/22)
Catherine Lamb
Rebecca Lane – quarter tone bass flute, voice
Catherine Lamb – viola, voice
Bryan Eubanks – voice
Andrew Lafkas – doublebass
Xavier Lopez – secondary rainbow synthesizerLamb’s monumental Prisma Interius series is built around the shimmering residue of the Secondary Rainbow synthesizer, which filters sound from outside the venue in real-time into discrete harmonic bands and evolving tone complexes. The fourth work in the series was made with Lamb’s close collaborators Rebecca Lane and Bryan Eubanks in mind. During the 2022 Sanitorium of Sound Festival in Sokolowsko, Poland, they were joined by Andrew Lafkas on 5 string doublebass and Xavier Lopez taking synthesizer duties so that Eubanks could focus solely on voice. This expansion allowed Lamb to fold Prisma I (an almost theoretical composition) into Prism IV – expanding both the harmonic and melodic contour possibilities in the piece.
