ONO, Ben Willis
Doors at 7:30 pm | $10 suggested donationFormed in Chicago in 1980, ONO is comprised of vocalist travis and multi-instrumentalist P. Michael with a line-up of other musicians that morphs through the years. Their unique blend of proto-industrial music and noise made them influential on the burgeoning Chicago industrial scene, championed by Wax Trax! artists like Al Jourgenson of Ministry, but their use of gospel music, drag, performance art and lyrics confronting colonialism, homophobia and racism set the apart from their peers – while keeping them in greater obscurity.
Ono has released eight records since 1982 and are touring with a new gang of musicians, including the versatile drummer Ben Billington. Kicking off the show is a new set of works for solo double-bass by Ben Willis, one of our favorite solo instrumentalists in town.
