Ars Nova Workshop, Bartram’s Garden, and Spirits Up! are collaborating to host Spirits Wake, a series of free outdoor yoga and mindfulness sessions paired with live music. Join us for an exploration of movement, music, and meditation in nature. This week features yoga with jean-jacques as Hudson River performs. This class is free, but we ask that you RSVP in advance.

ANTHONY TIDD’S QUITE SANE
PAINTED BRIDE ARTS CENTER
Grammy-winning bassist and composer Anthony Tidd premieres a new body of work commissioned by Chamber Music America, in a performance at Philadelphia’s Painted Bride Art Center on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Recently appointed Chief Creative Catalyst for Ars Nova Workshop, Tidd celebrates the 20th anniversary of The Child of Troubled Times: Short Stories, the critically acclaimed debut album by his Quite Sane octet, and makes his long overdue return to the groundbreaking ensemble with this performance. Quite Sane is Kokayi Walker – emcee, Laurin Talese – vocals, Erika Hicks – vocals, Steve Lehman – saxophone, Paul Cornish – piano, Miles Okazaki – el. guitar, Anthony Tidd – el. bass/compositions, and Sean Rickman – drums

COOPER-MOORE / WILLIAM PARKER / HAMID DRAKE TRIO
PAINTED BRIDE ARTS CENTER
Ars Nova Workshop presents three true giants of improvised music — multi-instrumentalist Cooper-Moore, bassist William Parker, and percussionist Hamid Drake — performing as a trio at Philadelphia’s Painted Bride Art Center, Friday, September 23, 2022. Join us at 7pm for a pre-concert discussion featuring the artists and WRTI’s Nate Chinen.
