Seattle-Isfahan Project: 33

The Seattle-Isfahan Project has commissioned new works by three Iranian composers living outside of Iran (Anahita Abbasi, Farziah Fallah, Parisa Sabet) and three Seattle composers (Jeff Bowen, Huck Hodge, Yigit Kolat) to draw attention to the the drought in Iran that is affecting the Zayandeh-Roud river in the city of Isfahan. Presented by Nonsequitur.

NonSeq: Mangal
Sat. June 18, 8 PM; $5 – $20 advance/at door

Mangal is an xperimental ensemble conceived by SoCal-based mrudangam player and composer Rajna Swaminathan, with Seattle artists Zahyr Lauren, Carlos Snaider, Neil Welch, and Ha-Yang Kim and visitors Anya Yermakova and Caroline Davis, presented with support from The Ocean Memory Project. Curated by Carlos Snaider for Nonsequitur’s NonSeq series.

Vibe Check
Tue. June 21, 6 – 10 PM; donation at the door

Seattle marimbist and producer Erin Jorgensen is joined by inimitable musicians Rachel Nesvig (Hardanger fiddle), Leanna Keith (flute), Aaron Michael Butler (percussion & sound manipula-tion), and Steve Peters (field recordings) for a 4-hour-improvisational musical nod to Summer Solstice. Prepare to aggressively chill. Bring pillows or blankets for maximum meditation.

Ramen Trio
Fri. June 24, 8 PM; $5 – $15 donation at door

Ramen Trio (James DeJoie, clarinets; Doug Lilla, bass guitar; Jay Weaver, drums) mixes composition and improvisation, using elements of jazz, contemporary classical, folk and rock. This music ignores fences. Tonight’s concert celebrates the release of their second recording, Resembling, and will likely be their final performance.
