To kick off our 2022 season, EFW will present the extraordinary double bassist Michael Bisio performing a solo recital on July 30 at CHAC in support of his new, already-acclaimed solo recording Inimitable on Mung Music. The Kingston-based Bisio has long been renowned as a virtuoso musician and we’re proud to provide him an opportunity to shine as a solo performer on 7/30.

September 9: Joe Morris / Ken Vandermark (CHAC) — the premier modern electric guitarist and educator Morris performs in an incendiary duo setting with the MacArthur “genius grant”-winning saxophonist Vandermark in this rare area appearance;

October 1: Matt Mitchell / Kim Cass / Kate Gentile (CHAC) — three of Brooklyn’s finest contemporary musicians and composers supercollide in this high-energy, eclectic and electric Fender Rhodes-bass-drums encounter;

October 22: Marilyn Crispell / Joe Fonda / Harvey Sorgen (SAC) — this world-class (and mostly Hudson Valley-based) trio of pianist Crispell, bassist Fonda and drummer Sorgen return to St. Andrew’s Church for a concert of ecstatic inspiration and passionate interplay in support of the ensemble’s new recording;

November 12: Robin Holcomb + Wayne Horvitz / Sara Schoenbeck (SAC) — Downtown by way of Seattle, the sublime composer, pianist and vocalist Holcomb is heard in a solo set, preceded by her husband, the celebrated keyboardist/composer Horvitz (Naked City), performing in a bracing collaboration with the noted bassoonist Schoenbeck (Anthony Braxton, Nels Cline);

November 19: Alexis Marcelo / Daniel Carter (HCC) — from Yusef Lateef to James Brandon Lewis to Malcolm Mooney among many others, pianist Marcelo cuts a distinctive profile even among his fellow cutting-edge musicians of distinction, a cadre surely including his partner for this concert, the legendary multi-instrumentalist Carter;

December 3: Ava Mendoza / Susan Alcorn (CHAC) — two of the world’s most singular guitarists — electric plectrist Mendoza and pedal steel player Alcorn — wax rapturous and incisive for the first time as a duo to close out EFW’s 2022 season.
