Alt Guitar Summit Honors Mick Goodrick.

Mick Goodrick has inspired countless improvisers over five decades in his Boston-based teaching practice. Some of his students include Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Mike and Leni Stern, Lionel Loueke, and Nir Felder. In addition to his teaching Mick has also been an acclaimed performer, both as a solo artist and with Gary Burton, Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, Jerry Bergonzi, Jack DeJohnette, Paul Motian, Peter Erskine, and others. He has also served as the guitarist for numerous legendary groups, including Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra, Greg Hopkins Big Band, and Steve Swallow Quintet.

Now in his mid-70’s, we honor this pioneer with some of his students and those inspired by him.

On March 12, 2022 at 8 pm, at Soapbox Gallery in Brooklyn, the Alt Guitar Summit will present an evening festival of duo and solo music inspired by Goodrick’s legacy. A dozen acclaimed guitarists, many of them Goodrick’s students, will perform live in person or via pre-recorded streams. In-person performances will include the first-ever duo performance by American guitarist Julian Lage and Europe’s premier jazz guitarist, Wolfgang Muthspiel in a rare visit from Austria. In addition to Muthspiel, Austrian musician Kenji Herbert will also perform live, in addition to live performances by Americans Lage, Joel Harrison, Kate Schutt, and Steve Cardenas. Other musicians, including Bill Frisell, Ben Monder, Lage Lund Tim Miller, Mike & Leni Stern and Nir Felder, will stream in their performances for airing at SoapBox.
