This upcoming Sunday, November 14, 2021 in Koreatown’s architecturally breathtaking First Congregational Church, Monday Evening Concerts will present two programs devoted to composers devoted to the domain of the sacred. Written amidst a 16th century plague, John Sheppard’s mysterious masterpiece Media Vita has been described by the New York Times as a ‘cult classic’ work of the Renaissance period. Arvo Pärt’s breakthrough pieces Tabula Rasa and Fratres usher in what is now known as the composer’s sublime tintinnabuli period. Also on the program is Gérard Grisey’s evocative work Stèle for two bass drums and luminous chronometer.
