Dear friends – actual gigs this month! Protocols in place, mostly outdoors, limited audiences – but real live music with two of my dearest friends and closest collaborators, Tomas Fujiwara on drums and Mary Halvorson on guitar. We’ve been playing together for a very long time in a variety of ensembles – here we tour for the first time as a collaborative trio, new tunes from all of us. Originally planned as a quartet tour with the marvelous pianist Benoit Delbecq in the group Illegal Crowns (cancelled and rescheduled many times in the past 15 months) – since Benoit can’t get here from France yet we’ll tour trio this time, but look out for Crowns next year.

In other news:
Through my job at the Hopkins Center of the Arts, I had the chance to produce a series of video interviews/artist portraits of some extraordinary musicians: Warren Smith, William Parker (along with his biographer Cisco Bradley), and Tomeka Reid. Some great conversations – please check it out!
The first concert I played since things started opening up was last month at Roulette in Tomas Fujiwara’s fantastic new ensemble Shizuko, with Davi Vieira (percussion), Tomeka Reid (cello), and Rafiq Bhatia (guitar) – you can stream it online here.
