Phil Kline’s outdoor holiday classic
— a participatory electronic soundscape celebrated worldwide every December —
will take place responsibly in 20 cities throughout December, from Athens, Georgia to Auckland, New Zealand.
The beloved NYC version will NOT gather in Washington Square as it has since 1992; Instead, Phil asks the public to hold their own private mini versions, separately but together all across NYC on December 20 at 6pm,
with a single household or 4-8 friends.
Cities presenting Unsilent Night for the first time this year include Auckland NZ • Berkeley CA • Charlottesville, VA • Kingston NY Lenox MA • Oklahoma City OK • St. Albert AB • Syracuse NY
Kline’s ethereal soundscape can be played by anyone of any age on boomboxes or amplified phones carried through city streets. Each participant plays one of 4 composed tracks at the same time, and the layered music creates a magical and joyous noise on foot.
