Tuufuhhoowaah / Bday Shots
On her first for LP Whited Sepulchre, Claire Rousay offers the smart phone as crystal ball. A tool whose unknowable properties allow us to reach across time and space, eavesdrop and peer deep into the intentions of our friends and enemies. Except that this crystal ball gazes back at you. claire’s two compositions offer an almost painfully accurate mise en scene where sustained tones, plunderphonic samples and field recorded snippets of conversations are met with deeply solipsistic scenes where we are hurtled into the body of an uncreated body as they scroll, type, delete while the flutter of anxiety caused memories and inner-dialogue keep them up in much more meaningful ways that the circadian rhythm destroying blue light from their crystal ball.
Variegated Tributary / Woven Crescent
As part of Whited Sepulchre’s 4 x LP release in June, Cincinnati experimental electronic artist Andrew Elaban brings his wide-screen conduction of chance connections and orchestrated unfolding of electronic neurons to the vinyl format. Elaban’s compositions “Variegated Tributary” and “Woven Crescent” are remarkable pieces of modular synth created music that offer an exploded view into Elaban’s creative process. We hear granular synthesis catching flight, decaying tones in a constant state of dying and resurrecting, melodies surfacing like glints of sunlight on placid water and electronic churning of noise gates shutting on and off with algorithmic regularity.
