Jorma Tapio & Kaski

With the new album ‘Aliseen’, legendary Finnish saxophone player Jorma Tapio and his group Kaski connect two traditions: local folk music and free jazz. Jorma Tapio formed Kaski in 2015. Kaski is the Finnish term to describe the traditional way of burning a forest to make the ground fertile again. The eleven songs that make up the album reflect on rural life in Finland, a country that has been occupied either by Sweden or Russia through the centuries; a nordic land with long dark winters, midnight sun in the summer, and deep links to the spiritual world. The album title, ‘Aliseen’ is the Finnish word for a shaman’s trip to the underworld.

TEST and Roy Campbell
CD out Sept 4

577 Records is proud to present the new album TEST and Roy Campbell, a live recording from April 16, 1999. This is the only known performance of Roy Campbell joining TEST: a collective band of Tom Bruno, Sabir Mateen, Daniel Carter, and Matt Heyner.

Cooper-Moore & Stephen Gauci
Conversations Vol. 1
LP out Sept 18

Conversations Vol. 1 is the eagerly awaited first installment of a two part release by pianist Cooper-Moore and saxophonist Stephen Gauci. This project, with volume two scheduled for release in the near future, was recorded at legendary Sear Sound studio and showcases these two deeply idiosyncratic players as they reach a unique dimension in which separate parts unify to create a breathtakingly astringent whole. The artists combined experience, spanning three generations, presents avant jazz in it’s most bracing, current, iteration on this exciting recording.
