The Soundwaves new music series at the Santa Monica Public Library joins with the Venice-based Cold Blue Music label to celebrate three new releases with a concert on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at 7:30pm in the Main Library’s Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium at 601 Santa Monica Blvd.
Since the 1980s, Cold Blue has released dozens of acclaimed albums by composers including Peter Garland, Daniel Lentz, John Luther Adams, Kyle Gann, Michael Byron, Rick Cox, Jim Fox, Larry Polansky, and many others, playing an important role in defining postminimalism.
This concert is the third collaboration between Cold Blue and Soundwaves. It features three new pieces:
– “The Basketweave Elegies” (West Coast premiere) by Peter Garland, consisting of nine short movements for solo vibraphone, performed by Michael Jones.
– “Splectra” (West Coast premiere) by Robert Carl, performed by harpist Alison Bjorkedal with the composer on electronics.
– “Bridges of Pearl and Dust” (World premiere) by Michael Byron, performed by Jordan Curcuruto, Kevin Good, Katie Eikam, & Michael Jones on three vibraphones.
CDs will be available for sale after the performance.
