On Thursday March 5, Battery Books & Music presents two sets of experimental music. At 8PM, the trio of Robert Reigle, Jeff Schwartz, and Tim Feeney make their debut. After completing his education at UCLA, tenor saxophonist Reigle spent several years teaching ethnomusicology in Turkey and has now returned to California. Bassist Jeff Schwartz grew up here and works in genres from Broadway to noise, while classically-trained percussionist Tim Feeney recently arrived to teach at CalArts, after studies in Bali, Ghana, and New Haven. The music they improvise together explores extremes of musical time and space and unconventional instrumental techniques. A set by saxophonist Ulrich Krieger follows. Also a CalArts faculty member, Krieger is known for collaborations with rock musicians such as Lou Reed and Lee Ranaldo, interpretations of 20th century composers such as John Cage, Henry Cowell, and Harry Partch, and his own compositional work. Admission is free, but donations are welcome and the artists will have CDs for sale.
The Battery Books and Music is at 26 S. Los Robles Ave. in Pasadena
