On July 3, two quartets of veteran Los Angeles musicians perform a tandem album release show at ArtShare-LA at 7:30PM.
The show begins with The Present Quartet: flutist Ellen Burr, harpist Anne LeBaron, bassist Jeff Schwartz, and Charles Sharp on saxophones, clarinets, and other winds. Their debut recording “Routes, Paths, Courses” is out now on the pfMENTUM label and can be downloaded from Bandcamp.com
The second set will be by The Boojum Quartet, led by cornetist Dan Clucas, with Vinny Golia on a bevy of reeds, electric bassist Steuart Liebig, and drummer Alex Cline. Their self-titled debut is on Bandcamp and CDs are available from the musicians.
Both sets will be completely improvised, like the music on both albums. All eight performers have played with legends of free jazz and free improvisation, but their interests and experiences also include contemporary and traditional classical music, rock, funk, and blues, music of Asia and the Middle East, and many other modes of expression and sources of inspiration.
Join us for a celebration of musical independence. ArtShare-LA is at 801 East 4th Place in the Downtown LA Arts District. Free parking is available across the street. Admission is $10, and the artists’ CDs will be for sale.
