ESP Disk Festival at NY’s Spectrum This Saturday

Source: Spectrum.

Spectrum is at 70 Flushing Ave. between Carlton and Cumberland Aves., across from the Navy Yard.

7 p.m. Gabriel Zucker solo

Zucker will perform a special solo piano version of last year’s ESP-Disk’ release Weighting.

7:45 Talibam! + Steve Dalachinsky

Jazz noise disruptors Talibam! (keyboardist Matt Mottel, drummer Kevin Shea) and jazz poet Steve Dalachinsky will not sound like any of Talibam!’s ESP-Disk’ albums because they’re always morphing into something that will irritate jazz purists in new ways.

8:30 p.m. The Red Microphone

This quartet of saxophonist/flutist Ras Moshe Burnett, saxophonist/pianist Rocco John Iacovone, electric bassist Laurie Towers, and drummer/reader John Pietaro will perform a mix of instrumentals and tracks from their 2017 album with poet Amina Baraka.

9:15 p.m. Yonezawa/Kamaguchi/Kobayashi

Pianist Megumi Yonezawa, bassist Masa Kamaguchi, and drummer Ken Kobayashi mix free improvisation and the occasional freely interpreted standard, as heard on their 2018 ESP release Boundary.
