Contraption Quartet + Jeremiah Moore — Low-tech (Contraption Quartet) meets high-craft sound (Jeremiah Moore). Contraption Quartet members are Bodil Fox, Larnie Fox, Chris Miller and Lena Strayhorn. This performance marks the final evening of Larnie’s exhibit at the Center for New Music celebrating the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s passing. Join us for an evening of experimentation and exploration of material-based sound.

Portato Portato is an Oakland/Santa Cruz quartet devoted to music of the 20th and 21st centuries, concentrating particularly on original and newly commissioned work. The quartet comprises Michelle Lee (flutes), John Ivers (clarinets), Jon Myers (percussion) and Jacob Lane (piano). Friday’s program comprises three newish works (all from 2018) and a New York School classic:
Morton Feldman’s Why Patterns (1978).
David Dunn’s Whittling I (2018)
Declan Seifkas’s Grove of the Ancients (2018)
Laura Steenberge’s Byzantine Rites 4 (2018)

Trance Mission
Formed by world-renowned didgeridoo pioneer and multi-instrumentalist Stephen Kent and award-winning clarinetist and composer Beth Custer, the San Francisco-based “4th World” band Trance Mission makes genre-bending music perhaps best described as a new form of contemporary global jazz, with driving intricate rhythms & gorgeous soaring melodies – worldly and otherworldly soundscapes that invite audiences into a unique universe of groove and new possibility in music.
