Every month, Nonsequitur and a community of like-minded presenters and artists offer ten concerts of adventurous music in an informal yet respectful all-ages setting: contemporary classical, free improvisation, the outer limits of jazz, electronic music, microtonal/new instruments, sound art, and other extraordinary sonic experiences.
Fousek + Chambers + Francis
The. May 30, 8 PM; $5 – $15 donation at door
Karl Fousek (Vancouver, BC) explores the sonorities of electronic sound synthesis algorithms, analog and digital, in a variety of contexts. Norm Chambers creates sound worlds ranging from spatially motivated ambient to aspects of minimalist composition and improvisation. RM Francis’ dense, kinetic compositions draw upon synthesis techniques specific to the history of computer music.
Inverted Space: Reflected Duality
Fri. May 31, 8 PM; $5 – $15 donation at door
Inverted Space Ensemble presents a concert that incorporates the Harry Partch Harmonic Canon, multiple toy pianos, cimbalon, and multiple string quartets. Works by Luke Fitzpatrick and Jeff Bowen, John Cage + Partch Ensemble Director Charles Corey will perform music of György Kurtág on cimbalon with soprano Sarah Kolat + string quartets by Cage, Robert Ashley and La Monte Young.
Sat. 6/1 – Kin of the Moon: Wander & Wail – guest soprano Emily Thorner joins Heather Bentley, Kaley Lane Eaton and Leanna Keith in premiering Eaton’s FUNERAL SENTENCES FOR DAMAGED CELLS and Keith’s Concerto for Tea Ceremony, and Crow
Thu. 6/6 – Flutist Colleen McElroy and saxophonist Evan Smith explore an adventurous program of modern music which will feature the new work Six Moments by Seattle composer Tom Baker
Fri. 6/7 – Nonsequitur presents Lori Goldston’s new work Rivulet, with an all-star band of Dave Abramson (drums), Haley Freedlund (trombone), Kole Galbraith (bass), Greg Kelley (trumpet), and Austin Larkin (violin)
Sat. 6/8 – Rae is the exploratory jazz trio of bassist Abbey Blackwell, guitarist Ronan Delisle, and drummer Evan Woodle
