On Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at 7:30 pm, the Soundwaves new music series at the Santa Monica Public Library welcomes composer/improviser/multi-instrumentalist Elliott Sharp to the Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium of the Main Library at 601 Santa Monica Blvd. for a reading from his new memoir irRational Music (Terra Nova/MIT Press) and a solo electric guitar set.
A major figure in New York’s musical avant-garde for over 30 years, Sharp’s career includes dozens of albums of original compositions, improvisations, and collaborations with artists including Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Oliver Lake, Christian Marclay, the Kronos Quartet, Andrea Centazzo, Mike Watt, Nels Cline, and Debbie Harry. He has received prestigious grants, commissions, and residencies, including from the Guggenheim Foundation, the American Academy in Berlin, the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and New York Foundation for the Arts.
