Every month, Nonsequitur and a community of like-minded presenters and artists offer ten concerts of adventurous music in an informal yet respectful all-ages setting: contemporary classical, free improvisation, the outer limits of jazz, electronic music, microtonal/new instruments, sound art, and other extraordinary sonic experiences.

Ensemble MidtVest
Thu. May 2, 8 PM; $5 – $15 donation at door

Danish chamber group Ensemble MidtVest consists of a string quartet, a wind quintet and a pianist. Understanding that classical music is a living tradition, rooted in the past, but as relevant today as it has been for centuries, they make the most beautiful music of the past 500 years accessible to the 21st century audience. For this concert, they present an entire program of free improvisations. Presented by Nonsequitur.

Sound Ensemble: Songwriters
Sat. May 4, 7 PM; $20, $15 student/senior

The Sound Ensemble believes that great music is found in all genres and that collaborations across boundary lines will cultivate synergy that allows all of us to enrich the lives of a broader community. Tonight they work with several artists to orchestrate their songs to be performed with TSE serving as the band: Tim Wilson (Ivan and Alyosha), Lizzie Weber, Joseph De Natale (Faint Peter), Michael Hamm (Cosmozoa).

Thu. 5/9 – classical guitarist Mark Hilliard-Wilson performs music by composers from Spain & Portugal

Fri. 5/10 – SoundPoint Duo (Rebekah Ko, marimba; Cassie Lear, flute) perform music by Nathan Daughtrey, Peter Eben, David Lang, and others

Sat. 5/11 – an evening of group improvisations hosted by S. Eric Scribner
