ENTERTAINING SCIENCE: POLYPHONIC MINDS: NEUROSCIENCE AND CUBIST JAZZ
Dave Soldier, host
Peter Pesic, author; Denman Maroney, piano; Ratzo Harris, bass; Bob Meyer, drums; Lisa Karrer, vocalist; Wally Glickman, poet

Many voices sounding together: how do musicians intertwine them? how does the mind make sense of them? Peter Pesic, author of Polyphonic Minds: Music of the Hemispheres and Music and the Making of Modern Science (both from MIT Press) will speak about the ways we can understand the mind as functioning through a kind of neural polyphony performed by our hundred billion neurons. To explore this, we’ll experience the cubist jazz of alt.timers, a trio of distinguished old timers—Denman Maroney (piano), Ratzo Harris (bass), Bob Meyer (drums), joined by vocalist Lisa Karrer and poet Wally Glickman.
