ECM Records to Release 21CD Art Ensemble of Chicago (and Related) Box Set

Source: Jazz Desk. This seems to be a straight-up repackaging of existing ECM albums. Nonetheless, nice to have them all in one place, and this will probably fill a few gaps in anyone’s collection.

ECM records will release a limited CD set of the labels recordings of The Art Ensemble of Chicago and associated groups on November 2.

The set will include 21 CD: s and a 200 page booklet. Among the CD: s are the Art Ensemble of Chicago’s albums recorded for ECM including ”Nice Guys”, ”Full Force”, ”Urban Bushmen”, and ”The Third Decade”. The set will also include solo albums for the label recorded by the Art Ensemble’s front men saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell and the late trumpeter Lester Bowie, and albums by Jack DeJohnette, Wadada Leo Smith and Evan Parker featuring Mitchell or Bowie.

Eric Moe’s Uncanny Affable Machines Reviewed

In his new album on New Focus Recordings, Uncanny Affable Machines, composer-pianist Eric Moe unveils a collection of his works for solo instrument, both with and without electronics. Exploring the interaction between fixed media and live performer, or the relationship between live performer and the instrument itself, the album features a powerhouse of musicians including violist Jessica Meyer, flutist Lindsey Goodman, percussionist Paul Vaillancourt, pipa virtuoso Yihan Chen, and Eric Moe on piano/keyboard.

Next month 2017 MacArthur Fellow, Wesleyan University professor and world-renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist Tyshawn Sorey will present an EXCEEDINGLY RARE 3-night New York City appearance in a residency at The Kitchen in Chelsea performing Oct 21st through 23rd with a variety of musicians from a wide spectrum of ages from their 20s to their 70s.

The performance schedule is as follows:

Sunday, October 21, 6pm: Duo with pianist Marilyn Crispell, with whom Sorey has collaborated on and off during the past five years.

Monday, October 22, 8pm: World Premiere – seven pieces for sextet composed during a Rauschenberg Foundation residency this past summer:
