For our July Canessa concert we are excited to present Hudson Valley, NY’s Bill Brovold in a trio with Kurt Zimmerman, and Mark Ormerod. Bill is an instrument inventor, guitarist and woodworker and has a new album of collaborative pieces on Public Eyesore called Michael Goldberg Variations. Also on the bill are Thingamajigs Performance Group featuring new music performed on invented as well as traditional instrumentation. Peter Whitehead’s performs instrumental folk pieces using instruments of his own design and Foreignfire is David Katz’ frenetic vocal improvisations.

Joshua Churchill & John Davis
As a performance duo, Joshua Churchill and John Davis operate spontaneously to create densely layered organic and atmospheric works, combining Churchill’s dynamic soundscapes with Davis’s handmade, and often hand processed, 16mm and Super 8 films. For Other Minds, Joshua Churchill and John Davis will present a collaborative performance that engages viewers in meditative and abstract environments, using imagery and sounds are rooted in the environment and its natural rhythms.

Pianist and composer Alon Nechushtan has toured both in the U.S. and beyond, releasing 10 critically acclaimed albums as a leader and showcasing “abundant chemistry and boundless eclecticism” (All About Jazz). For a night of original contemporary jazz and improvisational grooves, the trio is also joined by Scott Amendola Duo.

We are incredibly honored to announce that John Zorn and Bill Laswell will come together for the first time ever in San Francisco for two historic shows at The Chapel on Fri 7/13 and Sat 7/14! Join us, for “KONX OM PAX”. A portion of all proceeds from these shows will go to charities directly aiding the children separated at border camps, as part of The Chapel’s Keep Families Together Concert Series (charities listed in ticket links).
