Every month, Nonsequitur and a community of like-minded presenters and artists offer ten concerts of adventurous music in an informal yet respectful all-ages setting: contemporary classical, free improvisation, the outer limits of jazz, electronic music, microtonal/new instruments, sound art, and other extraordinary sonic experiences.
Ancient to Future (night 2)
Fri. Mar. 30, 7:30 PM; $5 – $15 at the door
Ancient to Future is a 3-day festival celebrating the great revolution in jazz and improvised music associated with the mid 60s – and that continues to this day. Tonight features a rare solo set by Julian Priester, tributes to Muhal Richard Abrams and John Carter/Bobby Bradford, and original music by Tiny Ghost w/ guest Julian Priester. Check out the other two nights of this series at the Royal Room on March 29 and 31.
THINGS THAT BREAK

A multidisciplinary concert experience in the realms of new music, stop-motion animation, storytelling, visual art, and theatrical performances centered around the theme of “breaking”. Composer Jessi Harvey, animator Becky Joy Aitken, storyteller/photographer Sonya Harris, storyteller and photographer, and performer Aimee Hong explore fragmentation as a form of connection and unity between people.
The Sound Ensemble

The Sound Ensemble presents You Didn’t Know They Composed, a program of compositions by musicians known mainly for their pop and indie rock careers: Murder Ballads by Bryce Dessner of the National; three world premieres by James McAlister (Sufjan Stevens, the Album Leaf); selections from Beck’s Song Reader; and Stephen Rush‘s Woodwind Quintet.
