Guitarist Howard Alden and violinist Kit Eakle and his DjangoSphere project present the music of Thelonious Sphere Monk in the 100th year since his birth along with Music by Django Reinhardt and Ellington as vehicles for improvisation at Point Rischmond Jazz on Friday, January 26 at 7:30. Howard Alden is widely considered one of the greatest jazz improvisors on guitar, and Kit Eakle, founder of Point Richmond Jazz, a concert series devoted to improvising violinists, struts his stuff as one of the most daring and innovative improvisors on his instrument.

To Shimmer is to reflect a wavering or distorted visual image, to tremolo a fitful aural light. To shimmer is to flicker and allow the possibility of an object viewed from multiple perspectives simultaneously. Shimmer is a 45 minute musical work by composer-pianist D. Riley Nicholson for piano and electronics. Live set design by visual artist Robby Gilson, recording and sound design by Zach Miley.

The great jazz guitarist Howard Alden joins veteran violinist Kit Eakle and his project DjangoSphere for an evening of standards, originals, and the music of Thelonious Sphere Monk and Django Reinhardt. In the words of Bay Area jazz reviewer Andrew Gilbert, “DjangoSphere is a rhythmically dexterous rollercoaster ride that artfully melds the sounds of two irreducibly brilliant artists.”
