Coming to Detroit’s Trinosophes

Source: Trinosophes.

Saturday, Aug, 12: Jonathan Taylor Quintet with Jaribu Shahid, Marcus Elliot, Mike Malis and Molly Jones plus Ben Willis (solo)
New music from this ensemble featuring some of our favorite Detroit improvisors. These mostly younger musicians are joined by one of Detroit’s true heavyweights, Jaribu Shahid (Griot Galaxy, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Roscoe Mitchell Sound Ensemble etc.). The inimitable Ben Willis opens the show with his solo, extended-technique double-bass set.
Jonathan Taylor- drums
Jaribu Shahid- bass
Michael Malis- piano
Molly Jones- winds
Marcus Elliott- winds
Doors at 8 pm; $10 suggested donation.

Monday, Aug, 14: Andrea Pensado, Domestique, Cygnus
Argentine sound artist Andrea Pensado left the world of academic composition to pursue electronics and improvisation. She was a member of the trio Los Condenados and has released the solo album, Without Knowing Why. Her touring partner, Domestique, makes dance music from home appliances. Psych-blues courtsey of Detroit’s Cygnus (Heath Moreland and Glen Moren) gets the show started.
Doors at 8 pm; $7.
