Wednesday, April . 12: Eric Arn, Ben Willis, TXTH
A veteran of avant rock projects like Primordial Undermind, Temple Lunaire and Crystalized Movements, Eric Arn now performs primarily as a soloist or in duos with Cam Deas, Stefan Kushima (Cruise Family) and Bernadette Zeilinger- as well as several European-based collaborative ensembles.
Spanning the worlds of folk-techniques and extended, modern- techniques, his guitar playing has both an earthy and an alien quality which veers towards dense harmonies and hypnotic drones- which is not to suggest it’s a mellow, dreamy affair; Arn keeps the overall energy high and the mood more intense than most drone-based music.
Two great Detroit acts open the show, including the instrumental art rock duo of Matthew Smith and Kerry Gluckman, THTX. Ben Willis follows with his oustanding extended-technique set on the (always daunting and less than fleet) double bass.
Doors at 8 pm; $7.
