Officially, SFJazz’s ECM Week runs from Feb. 23-26, with eight exceptionally divergent ensembles packed into four double-bill concerts.  But given the German record label’s vast, disparate and pervasively influential catalogue it’s not surprising that artists associated with ECM can’t be contained in a single four-day block of booking.

The organization could have easily and explicitly devoted an entire month to artists who record on ECM, starting with pianist Vijay Iyer, who kicks off his two-season stint as an SFJazz resident artistic director Feb. 9 with an evening of duets featuring alto saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa and trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith, with whom the pianist recorded 2016’s acclaimed ECM electro-acoustic duo album “A Cosmic Rhythm With Each Stroke”.
