Seattle Scene: December 8-17, 2016

From Seattle’s Wayward Music Series:

Chapel Performance Space at Good Shepherd Center
4th Floor, 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N, Seattle 98103 (corner N 50th St. in Wallingford)

Every month, Nonsequitur and a community of like-minded presenters and artists offer ten concerts of adventurous music in an informal yet respectful all-ages setting: contemporary classical, free improvisation, the outer limits of jazz, electronic music, microtonal/new instruments, sound art, and other extraordinary sonic experiences.

K. Hanson/G. Campbell/B. Johnson
Thu. Dec. 8, 8PM; $5 – $15 at the door

“Nothing will be explained this evening.” Composer/accordionist Kyle Hanson (aka The Murkies) obtains a shimmering sound and immersive effects with an extended technique called ‘alternating transverse oscillation of the bellows’. Greg Campbell plays percussion in multiple traditions, often using his own hand-built percussion instruments. Britta Johnson makes video installations, short films, and music videos.

Evil Genius + Hound Dog Taylor’s Hand
Sat. Dec. 10, 8 PM; $5 – $15 at the door

Evil Genius (Portland/LA) is a forward-marching experimental jazz trio of Max Kutner (guitar), Stefan Kac (tuba) and Michael Lockwood (drums). They’ve been likened to This Heat, Beefheart, Steve Lacy, and Henry Threadgill. Hound Dog Taylor’s Hand is Jeffery Taylor (guitar), John Seman (contrabass), and Mark Ostrowski (drums): spontaneous compositions rooted in the language of the blues and free jazz.
