Ken Vandermark on 5049 Records Podcast

Ken Vandermark, at "Sonore" concert,...

Source: 5049 Records.

For our first episode in almost two years, I am beyond ecstatic to welcome the one and only Ken Vandermark for a far reaching conversation into his personal history, working to build and sustain a community, inspiration and of course, the saxophone. Ken is a soulful warrior, an artist who probably needs very little introduction to fans of this podcast, I am delighted that he was able to help us bring the show back in style.

Lena Bloch’s FEATHERY
Wednesday, November 9th 8:30 PM $15 Suggested Donation
Lena Bloch (saxophone, composition)
Russ Lossing (piano, composition)
Cameron Brown (bass)
Dayeon Seok (drums)
Although Lena Bloch’s FEATHERY Quartet resembles a traditional tenor saxophone quartet, it’s really a small orchestra of shape-changers, the music created by these four artists is far more subtle and affecting. The group offers compositions by Bloch and pianist Russ Lossing, extended forms, pensive, rollicking, or dark, leisurely thoughtful dances. The art – for let us call it by its right name – is feathery-light and durable. I hear Lester Young and Brahms, sorrows and exultations, Eastern meditation and collective invention. The music is strong and sweet, dense and welcoming. The musicians have sensations to share with us, secrets made tangible, their language too deep for words.
