On January 2011, Lucio Capece, Kevin Drumm and Radu Malfatti made a tour in France, Belgium and Switzerland. This recording, made at the Brussels concert, is a unique opportunity to discover the outstanding combination of three radical approaches of minimalism in improvised music.
Pascal Battus, rotating surfaces / Dafne Vicente-Sandoval, bassoon
In this duo, Pascal Battus and Dafne Vicente-Sandoval explore the sound connections between their very dissimilar instrumentations: the various sounds made by rubbing objects on rotating surfaces from dismantled cassette recorders mix perfectly well with the lenghty sounds of the bassoon. In the first CD (Marne) instruments are amplified with single small microphones put close to them. In the second one (Seine), they are played acoustically.

Monk is hardly a jazz artist, but even record shop nerds are at a loss where to file her work (when pushed, she begrudgingly concedes to the Contemporary Classical bracket, but prefers the term New Music).
For more than 50 years, she has been making art that transcends conventional definition, an interdisciplinary approach combining music and voice with choreographed movement and symbols. While the sonic aspect has been bottled on a string of album releases, most notably for ECM, a Meredith Monk performance is about more than music – it is a collage of image, object, light and sound.
We’re proud to announce Avantwhatever Festival – a five day showcase of contemporary experimental music that the label will be staging in Triple R FM’s Performance Space in Brunswick, Melbourne from July 13-17 this year.
The festival includes four nights of concerts at the station as well as talks, workshops and outdoor performances along the nearby Merri Creek.
Featured will be international guests Gabi Losoncy (US), Jason Lescalleet (US) and Manfred Werder (CH) alongside Melbourne and Australia’s most unique talents, all pushing the boundaries of music as we know it.

Knoxville’s 2016 Big Ears Festival, a three-day marathon of the experimental sides of pop, jazz, and classical, kicked off with a performance by the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. Guest conducting was Steven Schick, who performed on his own later in the weekend. The program was not usual fare for the orchestra–which primarily presents classical masterworks and tributes to classic rock bands–but if this performance was any indication, it should strongly consider making contemporary concert music a regular offering.
