Ensemble mise-en will be presenting a concert of world premieres by Matthew Schickele, Amanda Feery, Matthew Barnson, Su Seungeun Lee, and Vin Calianno.

All of the composers for this concert are based in the New York area and are relatively early in their careers. ensemble mise-en has a goal of giving a voice to up and coming composers whose works are underperformed, and thrilled to be presenting these new works in pursuit of that goal.

The COLA concert series is a true collaborative effort between ensemble mise-en and the participating composers. This series places an emphasis on the relationship of composer and ensemble in order to fully engage both parties throughout the creative process. The writing of these new works involved meeting with the composers for a workshop of their sketches that took place earlier in September, which was followed by a reading session of the new work in January. COLA Finale, taking place on May 13th, is the end performance and the culmination of this process.

Ensemble mise-en is an innovative and versatile New York-based contemporary music collective striving to bring challenging yet beautiful sounds to a wide range of listeners. The ensemble’s musicians are led by composer Moon Young HA, imparting an experience simultaneously multi-cultural, intellectually stimulating, and aesthetically pleasing (“mee” in Korean means “beauty”, and “zahn” means “to decorate”).
