10000 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, California 94619The ClimateMusic Project (TCMP) is a collaboration between leading scientists and artists created to raise awareness about climate change and to inspire action through music. Don’t just read about climate change — hear it. Music is one of the oldest forms of human communication, and TCMP is using it to convey a powerful message that is crucially important for our species and our planet. TCMP’s premier performance of its new original work, “Climate”, will take place on Saturday, November 21st at the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, CA, starting at 8pm.
Featuring:
Erik Ian Walker, Composer
Scott Brazieal, Keyboard
Thomas DiMuzio, Synthesizer
Michèle Walther, Violin
Dr. William Collins, Scientific Advisor
Dr. Andrew Jones, Scientific AdvisorThe climate is a complex and dynamic system that operates across multiple time scales and influenced by many variables. As an analogy for climate, music is familiar and accessible. Centuries of climate record are compressed into the duration of a composition, with climate variables expressed as individual musical voices or as dynamic musical qualities, such as tempo, pitch, dynamics, and rhythm. TCMP works in this way with terabytes of climate data and the most advanced climate models to create music that reflects the story of our climate — past, present, and future.
