Pharoah Sanders was born into a musical family. Sanders’ early favorites included Harold Land, James Moody, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker, and John Coltrane. In 1961, Sanders moved to New York. Unable to make a living with his music, Sanders took to pawning his horn, working non-musical jobs, and sometimes sleeping on the subway. During this period he played with a number of free jazz luminaries, including Sun Ra, Don Cherry, and Billy Higgins. In 1964, Coltrane asked Sanders to sit in with his band. The following year, Sanders was playing regularly with the Coltrane group. Coltrane’s ensembles with Sanders were some of the most controversial and groundbreaking in the history of jazz. Their music represents a near total desertion of traditional jazz concepts, in favor of a teeming, irregularly structured, organic mixture of sound for sound’s sake. Strength was a necessity in that band, and as Coltrane realized, Sanders had it in abundance. Pharoah Sanders possesses one of the most distinctive tenor saxophone sounds in jazz. Harmonically rich and heavy with overtones, Sanders’ sound can be as raw and abrasive as it is possible for a saxophonist to produce. As a result, Sanders is highly regarded to the point of reverence by a great many jazz fans.

Tomas Korber is a Swiss/Spanish composer/improviser. The KONUS QUARTETT (four saxophones) is a Swiss chamber ensemble devoted to the performance of original contemporary compositions, which are often contrasted with older works performed in arrangement for saxophone. With their adventurous programming, the quartet has established itself as an important voice for contemporary and experimental music.
Solar Return was created in 2009 by Jenny Pickett and Julien Ottavi. They take electromagnetic phenomena as a starting point for their audio creations. Scores for dual audio synths/oscillators reflect patterns and electromagnetic events such as solar flares and inner city mobile phone mast peaks.
Ariadne is a sacred music duo based in Brooklyn, NY, comprised of Christine Lanx and Benjamin Forest. Their focus lies in the fixed framework of ritual interspersed with sacred and secular symbolism. Influenced by the canonical hours, their sound contains modern chant-like vocalises, Anglican choral textures, and percussive soundscapes in dense sonic textures. They are fascinated by juxtaposing themes, ancient structure and draw inspirations from mysticism and dystopian fantasies.
Tag Cloud is the Solo drone/noise/ambient experiments via analog electronics project of DC-based Chris Videll.
Jaap Blonk is a self-taught composer, performer and poet. As a vocalist, Jaap Blonk is unique for his powerful stage presence and almost childlike freedom in improvisation, combined with a keen grasp of structure. Besides working as a soloist, he collaborated with many musicians and ensembles in the field of contemporary and improvised music, like Maja Ratkje, Mats Gustafsson, Joan La Barbara, The Ex, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Ebony Band.
