Rob Mazurek – Alternate Moon Cycles (Waxing Crescent) – Acclaimed cornetist and sonic-explorer Mazurek created this minimalist masterpiece centered around single-note chants, sublimated to supernatural frequencies by trio combinations in intimate confines with collaborators Matt Lux (electric bass) and Mikel Patrick Avery (pump organ)
Makaya McCraven – In The Moment -Throughout the course of a year’s residency at The Bedford in Chicago, Makaya McCraven culled, crafted, re-mixed and re-imagined over 28 concerts of improvised music. The product is a beat-driven, entirely unique representation of the possibilities of improvised music; a fluid hybrid of the hip-hop and jazz languages.

Nick Mazzarella Trio – Ultraviolet – Alto saxophonist Nick Mazzarella has been developing a personal improvisational voice with his trio featuring two of Chicago’s most in-demand musicians: bassist Anton Hatwitch and drummer Frank Rosaly. On Ultraviolet, the trio’s third and strongest record, Mazzarella extends the storied lineage of Chicago alto saxophonists like Roscoe Mitchell, Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill and Matana Roberts.
