From Carl Testa:
Later this month I will be traveling to Europe for two weeks to perform with Anthony Braxton and the Tri-Centric Foundation. First I will be traveling to Torino, Italy to perform in Anthony Braxton’s Sonic Genome as part of the Torino Jazz Festival. There we will collaborate with other 60 musicians to perform a massive collage of Anthony’s music over the course of 8 hours. This is a spectacle that has previously happened in 2003 at Wesleyan University and in 2010 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I have participated in both of those performances and look forward to diving into it again.
After the Genome, I will travel to Amsterdam to take part in the Doek Festival 2015 which is a collaboration between the Doek Collective and the Tri-Centric Foundation. It is a 5-day festival where we will perform music by Braxton, Misha Mengelberg, and TCF and Doek composers. My new piece, tentatively entitled Ultraviolet, will be performed by James Fei, Michael Moore, Mary Oliver, Tomeka Reid, and Wilbert de Joode, along with myself on electronics. This piece will feature notated and improvised sections along with live processing of the acoustic instruments. It is a bit of a culmination of the electronics techniques I have been engaged with for the past 5 years. If you know people near Torino or Amsterdam, please let them know about these performances.
Back in October of 2014, I recorded a duo album with the guitarist Christopher Riggs for prepared guitar and live electronic processing. The resulting album, entitled Sⁿ will be released this Fall on Gold Bolus Recordings. We will be doing a few album release concerts in and around New England so keep your eye on my performances page for information on that.
