AMN Reviews: Scheerling – Radio Kootwijk (Oggy)

a1102172345_2Radio Kootwijk must lie somewhere between, if not deep under, the stations on a secret, Dutch FM dial. All five wordless but pregnant ambiences generated by Bert van Beek have been inspired by the poetry of Dennis Gaens, and each in itself is a fleeting poetry (the entire album runs but twenty-two minutes). Scheerling (which also apparently numbers a bassist and drummer, wherever they went) succeeds with minimal means to create five coherent but very different moods. So subtle it could be household appliances warming up. Or cooling down. A quintet of soft drones less palpable than the mists of dew evaporating off the soil gathering to make clouds in the sky.
