DC based lead singer of Pree, May Tabol delivers a rare solo performance. Benjamin Schurr has lead many iterations of the band Br’er, developing his prowess on various instruments.

Sensations Fix :: Protect-U
Franco Falsini founded Sensations Fix in the 1970s. The band has since become a cult favorite among psyche/prog fans and DJs. Guest musicians have been a crucial part of the current live project, fitting in local musicians wherever he performs. The current touring line-up includes Jackson Pollis (drummer of Real Estate) and synth wizard Collin Crowe. In the hands of DC’s Protect-U, synths are liberated to contribute whatever they can toward body-moving and brain-waving. Mike Petillo (who co-runs the Future Times label along with Andrew Max D of Beautiful Swimmers) and Aaron Leitko – treats every piece of hardware as an expression of possibility, and then enjoins those circuits into its beat-driven mission.

Andrea Parkins/Ayman Fanous :: J. Surak
Andrea Parkins is a New York-based composer, sound/installation artist and electro-multi-instrumentalist who performs using electronically-processed accordion, laptop electronics, and amplified objects. Over the last 25 years, Ayman Fanous has forged a singular synthesis of classical and flamenco guitar technique with contemporary free improvisation. Fanous also reaches back into his Egyptian ancestry in improvisations on the bouzouki. Jeff Surak operates in the netherworld between composed and improvised music, moving between musique concrete, drone, noise, & free improvisation using whatever sound implements at hand. He runs the Zeromoon label and directs the annual Sonic Circuits Festival of Experimental Music in Washington DC, presenting performances by a wide range of artists from Phil Niblock, Magma, Univers Zero, Merzbow, Faust, Odal, Andrea Parkins, David Behrman, and hundreds of others.

Fleisenberg is a player of objects on an ever changing assortment of ephemera and modified drum parts coaxing texture and tone both familiar and bizarre. Attentive to room resonance, ambience and collaborator, fleisenberg playfully utilizes sound and presence to explore space, time, and relationships. Audrey Chen is a Chinese-American musician who was born into a family of material scientists, doctors and engineers. Using the cello, voice and occasional analog electronics, Chen’s work delves deeply into her own version of narrative and non-linear storytelling. A large component of her music is improvised and her approach to this is extremely personal and visceral. Her playing explores the combination and layering of the homemade analog synthesizer, preparations and traditional and extended techniques in both the voice and cello. She works to join these elements into a singular ecstatic personal language. Margaret Rorison is a filmmaker and curator from Baltimore, Maryland. Her work often develops from extensive walks through rural and urban landscapes, combining memories, field recordings and text. She is interested in the potentials of storytelling through the use of 16mm projection and sound and often projects her films along other experimental sound artists. Janel Leppin, Anthony Pirog, and J. Surak are three of the DC’s most active experimental musicians. They have collaborated often over the years, each time presenting a different set of soundscapes that crush any notion of genre.

Sir Richard Bishop was a founding member of the Sun City Girls, a band who and released over 50 full-length albums over the course of a career spanning more than 2 decades. In early 2005, Richard began extensive touring as a solo artist, performing throughout Europe, Australia, and the United States. He is known mostly for his acoustic playing, though he has recently been performing with electric guitars in a solo setting. One can usually recognize the influences of Omar Khorshid, Django Reinhardt, Ali Akbar Khan and Ravi Shankar in his playing, though he has fused these and many other influential elements into his own unique style. Robert Millis is a sound artist, producer, guitarist, and composer. He is a founding member of Climax Golden Twins and AFCGT, a solo artist and a frequent contributor to the Sublime Frequencies label. He has scored long and short films, created sound installations, produced and designed audio projects, and released many LPs and CDs. His work veers haphazardly between sound art, music concrete, instrumental, improv, field recording, song and collage, with a deep interest in folk and traditional music. Philadelphia-based improv ensemble Kohoutek has constructed a dynamic, stylistic range of abstract sound, consisting of textural drone, atmospheric rock, harsh noise freakouts, clattering percussion, guitar heroics and alien electronics, all congealing to form a multihued psychedelic extravaganza. They inhabit a world of murky terrain where drone, musique concrete and noise coalesce with cosmic folk, where doom and sludge metal merge with fiery jazzoid polyrhythms. All Kohoutek performances are rituals channeling untapped energy transmogrified through pure expression and response to the immediate environment.
