The giants of European art music in the second half of the twentieth century – Berio, Stockhausen, Ligeti, Kagel, Nono, Xenakis – Boulez is the only one still alive. The Nieuw Ensemble – longstanding advocate Boulez’s work – honors the occasion of his ninetieth birthday with a beautiful portrait concert.

Creator of a small and lasting works, world-famous conductor with brilliant technique and flawless ear, astute thinker / writer / polemicist, responsible for the creation of the leading Ensemble Intercontemporain and the groundbreaking IRCAM (Institute where scientists, musicians and composers jointly new technology develop for the music of the future): Boulez’s importance and influence can hardly be overestimated.

Ava Mendoza Interview

From Free-Times.com:

Unnatural Ways is the main project of exceptional Brooklyn-based guitarist Ava Mendoza. Originally formed in early 2012 in Oakland, California, as a trio, the band toured steadily in the U.S. and Europe before Mendoza relocated to New York in 2013, where she reformed the band.

Last year, Unnatural Ways toured in the U.S., Canada and Europe surrounding performances at the 2014 Victoriaville Festival in Canada and the 2014 Moers Festival in Germany. Over the course of those shows, the band developed its unique sound: sharp, heavy and psychedelic. Drawing from complex rock, avant jazz and warped blues, the players push the boundaries of their own vocabularies and of the written music to put on powerful and unpredictable live shows.
