Missoula Musicians to Kick off Monthly Free-form Improv Sessions Tonight

From the Missoulan:

Experimental improvised music is a niche genre – one so niche that a scene dedicated to it doesn’t even exist in college towns like Missoula. A local quintet is looking to remedy that with a monthly concert dedicated to experimental music that lives in the moment, whether soothing or discordant. The Avant-Garde Alliance, which debuts Friday, features guitarist Matt Olson (The Shiveries, formerly of Vera), saxophonist Nathan Hoyme (Poor School, Finisher), keyboardist Ben Weiss (Modality, Phillip Glasshole), bassist John Sporman (Tom Catmull’s Radio Static, Shahs, NextDoorPrisonHotel) and drummer Derek Smith (Finisher).
