One response to “El Intruso 7th Annual Critics Poll and Musician’s Poll”
In the ’60s Amiri Baraka asked how white musicians would feel if they had to submit their recordings to an all-black press for judgment, as black musicians had to submit theirs to an all-white press. Here we are a half-century later, and you have 150 musicians (only maybe a half-dozen black) and 46 critics (none black) judging the recordings of the year 2014. So next year please make sure you reverse those proportions and have 145 black musicians and 46 black critics choosing the winners, and see what happens. Also, as a secondary point, most of the musicians on this panel are far less than stellar players.
